Frugally Fabulous Friday-The Dollar Tree Edition

Well, it’s that time of the week again!  It’s time to talk about different ways to keep ourselves looking and feeling beautiful on a budget.  You all know (because I’ve said it over and over again) that I am a beauty product junkie.  Even more so, I am a budget beauty junkie!  That’s where the Dollar Tree comes in, my friends!   I’m not sure if you’ve ever cruised the Health and Beauty aisle at your local Dollar Tree, but if you haven’t this is the time to start!  Dollar Tree is hidden treasure trove of budget beauty items.

Dollar Tree carries many of their house brand items for general beauty needs, they are my first stop for cotton rounds, emery boards, nail buffing blocks, and nail polish remover.  Their discount beauty products are a great alternative to drug store items.   However, my favorite aspect of the Dollar Tree beauty aisle is the discontinued and overstock name brand cosmetics that comes into the store.

For example, I regularly purchase the Sally Hansen Salon Ultra Smoothing Foot Scrub at my Dollar Tree.  This is a terrific product that I use all the time.  I actually use it for all-over exfoliation because I have alligator skin, but that’s a different post.  This scrub is still sold for $7.95 at my local Rite Aid.  But I only pay a buck for it!  You can’t beat it!
I had a great time at Dollar Tree earlier this week, and I thought I would share my little discount beauty haul with you!  This is what I bought:

A little show & tell of my latest beauty score at Dollar Tree

  • L’Oreal Extra Intense Liquid Pencil Liner in Emerald (this liner sells for about $8 in drugstores.  It’s a great liner, very comparable to the legendary Urban Decay 24/7 Liner.
  • L’Oreal Eye Smoker Pencils.  These are very similar to the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils.  I bought 2, one in Eggplant, one in White.  These are very creamy and easy to use.
  • House brand eye makeup remover wipes.  I buy these regularly.  I don’t care for them for removing makeup, but I like to use them to spot-clean my brushes when doing my eye makeup.
  • House brand eyelash glue.  I ran out of my beloved Duo glue, and grabbed this since I was there.  It’s just OK for me, mostly because I practically needed sandpaper to remove it.  Works well in a pinch, but I probably won’t repurchase this.
  • Goody brand hair clips.  These I really love, because they have no-slip grips inside the little claws.  Great for my hair, which sometimes slips out of clips and pins.
  • Goody brand flower hair tie.  Looks great with a side ponytail!
  • e.l.f. Holiday lip gloss collection.  Marked at $3, but I still only paid $1!  These are really cute, holiday scented glosses.  e.l.f. is a great affordable makeup brand, great quality for the price.  I think I’ll feature them on a future FFF!
  • e.l.f. nail polish
  • Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse Eyeshadow.  I really like these as color bases for eye looks.  These currently sell for around $5 at drugstores.
  • Maybelline Metallic FX Sheer Chrome Eye Color.  These are AMAZING!  I got the Copper Shimmer Pencil, and it’s a great color!  I missed out on these at the drugstore, and may go back and pick up the other colors they have.  This works well as a liner, a color base, or a shadow.

If you’re a budget beauty babe like me, do yourself a favor and check out Dollar Tree!  Check back often, too.  The stock often changes, there are frequently great surprises for me there!  For example, the last time I was there (after this current haul), I was THRILLED to find a whole selection of e.l.f. Studio lip products!  So fun!

So tell me, have you been to your Dollar Tree lately?  What are your favorite Dollar Tree items?  What are some of your best budget beauty tips?
