Some of you may know that my kids are involved in several different activities. My daughters and one son all play soccer, and my son, daughter, and husband are all involved in martial arts. My family is blessed that we are able to afford the fees for these activities, but I know some families are not able to. We all want our kids to be able to enjoy these activities, and be able to have fun with other kids their age.
So what’s a family on a tight budget to do? Perhaps you have heard of the Police Athletic League (PAL). PAL is an organization that offers a variety of sports, recreational, and educational programs for children completely free of charge. PAL is staffed by police officers who are assigned full-time to supervise activites and oversee the children.
My children participate in a variety of PAL activites. Our local center offers sports every season, including, but not limited to wiffleball, flag football, bowling, soccer, basketball, softball, dance camp, golf camp, tennie and baseball. There are also various trips they take the kids on.
They also offer homework club each day, chess club, trivia challenge, and other educational programs. There is even a scholarship program for members in high school! My children also participate in their annual summer day camp.
Remember, all these activities are FREE OF CHARGE!
