Every week, I die a little inside when filling up the gas tank (or listening to hubby tell me how much he spent). Yes, dear readers, this Frugalista wants to cry when she hears how much precious cash her minivan burns up. But for right now, I simply don’t have a choice. Hubby works 30 miles away, so it’s not like he can walk to work, like I can. We looked at public transportation, and it would save us a considerable amount of money. However, it would keep him away from the home an extra FOUR HOURS every day. And with the commitments that both he and I have after hours, this is not a feasible solution for us at this time.
Thankfully, I stumbled across an article at SmartMoney.com, a Wall Street Journal Magazine, with useful tips on how to decrease your gas consumption. Many of these are tips that I have heard before, but I particularly liked this article, because they attribute a dollar value for each money saving tip, i.e;, maintaining proper tire pressure can save you $29! With all of these various tips, you can shave up to $733 off your gas bill from now until Labor Day. Of course, YMMV, depending on your particular vehicle and such. Thanks for the great info, SmartMoney!
