The Expense of a Soda Addiction

An entry by QponCutie on 05/28/2008

**stands up** My name is QponCutie, and I am a Pepsi-holic. Whew! It feels so good to get that off my chest! For years, I have suffered with this monkey on my back. Oh, Pepsi, with your cold, bubbly, cola-y goodness, how I love thee.

That being said, I obviously aware of the financial and physical implications of my habit. I drink Pepsi nearly every day, and if there is enough in the house, I could damn well overdose on it. I try not buying it, but if I don’t have it in the house, I end up going out and spending even more exorbitant sums of money to get my fix.

However, I just read a post by Trent at The Simple Dollar that may help my kick Pepsi for good. He goes over some estimates on how much he spent on soda (a conservative estimate for me), and basically equated the money in a year saved by NOT buying soda equaled an extra mortgage payment, which would in turn have the house paid off 8 years early. That kind of thinking just might be able to get me off the stuff.

Interesting observation. I wonder how much money I would save not buying my coffee every morning! :D

I bet you could make TWO extra mortgage payments! Good coffee is pricey!
