And then there are people who put us all to shame!

An entry by QponCutie on 05/22/2008

As I was meandering about the blogosphere this evening, I came across an interesting blog called Handprints on the Wall. I was enjoying her posts, and I read an interview she did with a woman who epitomizes the term frugal. She talked with this woman who, along with her family, were almost totally self sufficient, and only needed to purchase $150 worth of groceries for their family TWICE A YEAR! Their lifestyle seems very simple, very “Little House” to me. I think it sounds like an amazing life (although I don’t know that I’m willing to sacrifice some of the things I have to lead that sort of life)

The part that amazed me most was the fact that this woman was the daughter of a decidedly un-frugal mom! Hubby’s family is from the coal-mining regions of upstate PA, and were there during the depression. He is also descended from the PA Dutch, and a lot of the frugal ways his family always lived have trickled down to this generation, which makes people look us cross-eyed sometimes. I can only imagine how people look at this family!

It’s an inspiring article, and really goes to show us all that we can always do just a little bit better. This woman makes me aspire to be the best steward of what we have, and always remember not to waste the precious resources we are blessed with.

Eggs getting close to their prime? Don’t let them go to waste. Pickle them before they go bad and enjoy a fun snack that everyone thinks is gross :p
