The Incredible Disappearing Ice Cream

I was in the frozen food section today, trying to decide which flavor of Edy’s ice cream to buy.  While I was pondering this eternal question, it struck me that the cartons looked a little funny.  Then it hit me.  The cartons were smaller!  Now, instead of 1.75 quarts, they are 1.5 quarts.  No price difference, though!  Anyone remember when a “half gallon of ice cream” was actually half a gallon?

This kind of shrinkage really grinds my gears.  Now they are charging FIVE DOLLARS (regular price, which I would never pay) for a quart and a half of ice cream!  Believe me, I understand that times are tough across the board these days, but come on now.  Edy’s is owned by the Nestle Corporation. Last year, Nestle saw a 16% profit increase, according to the New York Times. Exactly how much money do these people need to make??  It’s really getting ridiculous.  How long before us regular folks are priced right out of the grocery market?
